A highlight of this June’s General Assembly was the report of the Justice and Equity Task Force (affectionally known as “JET Force”). Commissioned by the 2021 GA, this group presented an 88-page report that was the impetus for a number of resolutions passed this year.
I believe that, unfortunately, this task force was not given the profile it deserved. The report was made available to registered delegates only just weeks prior to the General Assembly, and apart from the presentation at the meeting and scanty discussion from the floor, there has been little engagement of this across the Church of God. I am quite certain that most of our North American constituency is not aware of the report and its valuable findings related to ethnic and gender diversity within our movement.
If you have not already done so, please read the report. It is available HERE.
I felt that it was important to give this work greater attention and to discover a little more about the process that the JET Force went through over the past two years. So, I contacted Carron Odokara, chair of the task force, and asked her some questions so that we could all have a better appreciation of this report and its implications for the Church of God. I am grateful for the time she took to do this for us.
